What is mendong grass?

Mendong is an acquatic grass, a rapidly renewable source that is cultivated in North West Java, picked dried and sent to our artisans in villages in Semarang to be cut, dyed and hand woven using traditional wooden looms.

Leafy Green his floral leaf green pattern is traditionally screen printed by hand using vegetable dye onto white stitched woven natural mendongA botanical influence with a modern classic feel. Timeless yet fashionable, 

  • Russet - two tone. A rich texture of woven ruby red dyed mendong overlaid with orange and a hint of the palest green stitching. This design creates a two tone effect as its weave is alternated  
  • Teal  - two tone. A vibrant textural weave using rich autumnal colour stitching woven on a deep teal (turquoise) dipped mendong. With a contrasting pale blue cotton, this weave is particularly stunning as the light catches the two tone effect.
